Real Life VS Social Media

I think you'll all agree with me in saying that the world we live in today is somewhat taken over by social media. I'm sure I'm not the only one who spends pretty much what feels like all day scrolling through my Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr and Bloglovin' feed and the thought of a world without my Instagram account and all other social media accounts seems terribly boring. Just like every other blogger I take photos of almost everything, and yes, I'm the one always saying 'let me take a picture of your food before you eat it!' I think social media can be such an amazing thing, so what I'm about to say doesn't change any of that, I just think there's a few things we need to think about as we're scrolling through all of these fabulously edited photos.

I know from first hand experience that sometimes when every picture on your Instagram feed looks 'perfect' and everyone seems to be travelling here or there, eating the most glorious looking food, looking flawless when they've just woken up or have the 'perfect' make up collection, it can make you feel like utter crap. Yes it is fun to edit your photos, add effects to just make yourself look that bit better, or to edit the lighting so that any imperfections are gone, but we have to remember that these are just photos. It may look like everyone wakes up and looks incredible when they've just got out of bed, but in reality they've probably been up for hours doing their hair and make-up and then quickly jumped back into bed to make it look like they've just woken up! Ahh there's so much I want to say and I'm trying to not just ramble here!

Something else I see a lot of on my feed recently is healthy foods. Now I have to say, I do this as well, I put my hands up! But just because somebody chooses to upload pictures of ONLY healthy food, doesn't mean that's all that they eat. I certainly eat the odd piece of chocolate here, some pizza there, however I just choose to not always upload it, and I'm sure that is also the case with most other people.

Moral of the story is, people choose what they put online. They edit their life and their photos. I'm not saying this is a bad thing, because I totally do it too. I just think we need to open our eyes and realise that people choose how other people perceive them and not everything in somebody's life is put online, it's probably just the good bits! We shouldn't let it get to us, but I know that we do. I certainly do anyway. Seeing people travel the world on a day to day basis whilst I'm stuck here in the boring little village that I live in makes my life seem crap, and completely boring. Nobody is perfect. Nobody leads a perfect life, and just because their Instagram or social media posts may perceive them to have a perfect life, the truth is, they probably don't.

Lots of love x

  3. Precisely! I think if we took what we saw online as what peoples' lives are really like, it would definitely give us a bit of inferiority complex! Like you say, fun to see, as long as you know there's always more to the story x
